2 Year Old Grief

Wrapped up and ready to go deliver my "pappie" to baby Evan!

Kissing it "bye bye"

A gift for Evan!

Sweet Baby Evan!

Addie's paci in her wrapping, complete with Dora Stickers!

The day Addie was born, a nurse brought her back to us after her little bath, all swaddled with a pacifier in her mouth! At the time, we weren't even sure if we were going to use pacifiers, but it was too late once the nurse made that decision for us. Sure enough, it was "love at first taste" and she's never lived a day without it since then. Fast foward to today....now 25 months old. We just had her two year well check and sure enough, Dr. Cope said to get rid of it asap. Why? Addie's already showing signs of problems with her teeth and mouth from this little habit, so we agreed that it was time. So, Addie happily and proudly wrapped up her paci ("pappie") and delivered it to Mrs. Amanda's new baby, baby Evan! It all sounds so great, doesn't it? An "easy" transition, a proud little girl willing to share.....well, here's the real scoop: She didnt' nap today and rather wailed for a solid two hours. Same with bedtime- so far, it's been 1 1/2 hours. She's such a big girl though with such a giving heart. She keeps saying over and over, "Addie give pappie to baby Evan. Addie big girl". It's absolutely heartbreaking. It's one of those days where you want your child to have a 20 year old understanding of a situation, rather than two year old confusion. She's grieving the loss of this paci and it's awful to watch. She has cried so much today, so hard, and so long. Poor Ad's. She'll get a prize tommorrow- I'm going to make sure of it!
